Galerie Nicolas Robert Toronto is pleased to host Volume or Weight, a group exhibition from the University of Guelph’s Master in Fine Art program with works by Megan Arnold, Simone Blain, Catherine Chan, Julien Fisher, Samuelle Grande, Danan Lake, Sophia Laprès, Evgenia Mikhaylova, Paul Nadeau, Chelsea Ryan, Anna Semenoff, and Thomas Weir.

Linked by physical proximity and shared time, the works in Volume or Weight are the products of oblique collaborations; embedded are fingerprints of discussions, mutual feedback, shared materials, and advice passed around the studio. While this exhibition does not follow a single thematic thread, there is significant overlap in this collection of work. Some pieces investigate the poetics of materiality and consequences of organizational systems, others contend with resource extraction and deep time. Still, others address diaristic practices, literature, and the embodiment of mark making. We invite you to explore how lines of connection appear among the various methods, materials, and dimensions of these works and diverse practices.
