Justin Weiler
Projection
From September 13 to October 26, 2024
Galerie Nicolas Robert is proud to present Projection, Justin Weiler’s first solo exhibition across the Atlantic.
It’s a meeting between two locations: the Fonderie Darling which serves as an artistic residency for a few months, and Galerie Nicolas Robert. It’s a mental projection of the interior architecture of both buildings. Reclaiming the gallery's empty space, like a scan; corners and spaces follow and overlap to create a new panorama. Geometric cutouts and other contact zones offer a new architectural vision. The spatial sensation is transposed onto glass in a gradient of colors reflecting the colorimetry generated by the transparency of the glass panes in the window frames at the Fonderie Darling.
In a proposal that is neither abstract nor realistic, glass becomes a pictorial visual support for shapes inspired by interior architecture from different points of view. Plans develop in layers through the superposition of multiple glass plates, acting as spatial markers that delineate without closing off. The glass panels become screens of diffusion, true boundaries that create cutouts of the image and space, serving as interfaces and walls that interact with contexts and architectures.
Walls and corners are a conceptual representation opening up to other spaces, beyond the walls. The implied space possesses an internal structure inherent to the materiality of the glass. The synthesis of spaces reveals a zone, a geometric in-between that sketches a perspective composed of solids and voids, shadows and light.
A mundane space, yet transformed and enhanced by light, that reveals the ever-present threshold in Justin Weiler's work—this transitional area that embodies the passage between inside and outside.
A Paris-based visual artist, born in 1990, Justin Weiler lives and works between Nantes and Paris.
