Keiran Brennan Hinton
Between the Woods and Frozen Lake
April 2nd to May 7, 2022
Galerie Nicolas Robert Toronto is pleased to present Between the Woods and Frozen Lake, an exhibition of 13 new works by Keiran Brennan Hinton. With this series of paintings, the artist continues to explore his interest in observational painting as a way to document the fleeting moments of daily life; a towel drying on a clothesline, raindrops on a window, a candlelit dinner table.
Brennan Hinton began working on the exhibition in summer 2021, making intimate single sitting in situ paintings in Rideau Lakes, Ontario, followed by a series in fall in Haliburton, and then in winter at his apartment in Toronto. These pieces are visual diary entries, recording the temperature of the light on a summer morning or the saturation of a blue shadow set across January snow. This series culminated in the artist's most ambitious observational painting to date, A Week in November (56 x 96”), that challenges conventional notions of perspective and observation.
Keiran Brennan Hinton (b. 1992, Toronto) lives and works between Toronto and New York. He received his BFA from Pratt Institute in 2014 and his MFA from Yale University in 2016. Recent solo exhibitions include Towards Sentimentality at Charles Moffett Gallery in New York, Day Breaks Night Falls at Galerie Thomas Fuchs in Germany, A Broken Clock is Right Twice a Day at Michael Gibson Gallery in London, Close at Hand at 1969 Gallery in New York, and Matter of Fact, at Mulherin New York. An RBC Painting Competition finalist in 2018, Brennan Hinton will be included in an upcoming 2022 group exhibition I AM HERE, Home Movies and Everyday Masterpieces at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
