Lorna Bauer
Tools for Idlers
October 20 to November 24, 2018
Galerie Nicolas Robert is pleased to present Tools for Idlers, Lorna Bauer's third solo exhibition at the gallery. This new body of work stems from a research residency undertaken in Rio de Janeiro where Bauer became immersed in the Sitio, the home and garden of the late Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, as well as the site for his collaborations with British botanist and illustrator Margaret Mee. Bauer links the work of these two pioneers of environmental conservationism to the preeminent modernist Le Corbusier’s Unité d'habitation flat roof terrace, photographed from various points of view not typically associated with the structure. Here, Lorna Bauer presents an assemblage of photographs and blown glass sculptures inspired by moments of wandering in the Sitio and City Radieuse.
