Maude Corriveau
Draperies

May 27 to June 30th. 2023

Galerie Nicolas Robert is proud to present Draperies, an exhibition of new works by Maude Corriveau. In this body of work, Corriveau explores the formal qualities of drape as the main subject of her compositions. An omnipresent motif in the history of Western art, the drape is used to hide bodies in order to magnify their forms until it gradually emancipated itself.

Interested in the expressive power of its sinuous folds, Corriveau explores the notions of surface, skin, and envelope, thus questioning the boundary space between what is perceived and what is fantasized. She pursues her fascination with optical phenomena through retro-reflective textiles that have the ability to reflect light through micro-prisms. The pastel drawings and oil paintings in this series feature iridescent colors that melt into fluid texturologies, dissolved in their shimmering reflections.

Maude Corriveau lives and works in Montreal. She holds a master's degree in visual and media arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (2020). She is a recipient of the Canada Council's Explore and Create grant (2021) and the prestigious Yvonne L. Bombardier Graduate Fellowship in Visual Arts (2019). Her work has been exhibited in Canada (Plural, Foire en art actuel de Québec, Art Toronto, etc.) and in the United States (Future Fair, New-York) and is part of numerous private and corporate collections, such as the Mouvement Desjardins and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ).
