Galerie Nicolas Robert is proud to present Cette pièce est un désir, the artist's second solo exhibition at the gallery. Domestic objects have occupied an unsuspected part of the daily life of many people over the past year. Faced with a need to envision the future, Philippe Caron Lefebvre locked himself in the studio and turned fiction into refuge by creating a speculative domestic ecosystem.

With this body of work, the artist continues his reflections on various biological mechanisms such as mimicry and morphological evolution. In his practice, these processes take the form of material experimentations entailing a juxtaposition of noble and trivial materials, manufactured and recycled devices, as well as natural and artificial effects. To do this, Caron Lefebvre uses both artisanal and technological strategies and combines ornamental and utilitarian modes. The sculptures, ceramics, drawings and collages on display are as much the protagonists of (science-)fiction as is this installation. A heterogeneous universe embodying the freedom of an alternative future (a present). Thus, the recurring motifs within Philippe Caron Lefebvre's practice, such as the sharp point, the orifice, and the grid, form a lexicon of formal and narrative strategies through which it is possible to apprehend the reel.

Born in Saint-Sauveur (Quebec), Philippe Caron Lefebvre lives and works in Montreal. He holds a BFA from the Université du Québec à Montréal and a MFA from Concordia University. Caron Lefebvre actively exhibits his work in Canada, Mexico and Japan. His most recent individual exhibitions include Cycles (Maison de la culture Claude Léveillé, 2019 & Plein sud, 2018), Syzygy (Galerie Nicolas Robert, 2018), Instinct I (Sporobole, 2016), Instinct II (Galerie McClure, 2016), La position de l’apex (Optica, 2016). His work can be found in several institutional and corporate collections, including the Collection Prêt d'œuvres d'art du Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the collection of the Musée d'art contemporain des Laurentides, the collection of Alice and Thomas Tisch (New York) as well as the corporate collection of Deloitte, Microsoft and the City of Montreal.
