Roland Poulin was born in 1940 in Saint-Thomas, Ontario. He has been living and working in Sainte-Angèle-de-Monnoir for the last thirty years. Poulin studied at l’Ecole des beaux-arts of Montréal between 1964 and 1969 and he graduated in 1969. Poulin has been the recipient of several awards including the Ozias-Leduc prize in 1992, the Canada Art Council’s Victor-Martyn-Lynch-Stautonprize in 1996, the Jean A. Chalmers’ national prize in 1998, the Paul-Emile Borduas prize in 2001 and the Canadian Governor General’s Award for the Visual Arts in 2005.
Several important solo shows have been dedicated to his work, including the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and the Musée National des beaux-arts du Québec. His work has also been exhibited in several major group exhibitions in Canada and abroad.
Poulin’s works are part of many art collections such as the Montréal Fine Art Museum collections, the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the Nickle Galleries collection of the Calgary University, the Ontario Fine Art Museum and the Art Bank of the Canada Art Council, among others.
