Galerie Nicolas Robert is proud to present the second part of Tristram Lansdowne's exhibition I swear you never slept at night. In a new body of work that includes watercolours, drawings and relief sculpture, I swear you never slept at night continues Lansdowne’s examination of the psycho-spatial content of the contemporary modernist home. Borrowing its title from Track Three on Scott Walker’s 1984 album Climate of a Hunter, this exhibition traces the erosion of subjectivity and increasing sense of placelessness in modern architecture as it is disseminated through globalized design culture. Taking the absent lover referred to in Walker’s song as a metaphor for illusion, lost intimacy and deferred time, it asks what our current conceptions of the ‘ideal home’ say about our sense of place within a digitized world of speculation-driven real estate development and hyper-realistic imaging technology.
